Dear residents,
Over the past several weeks, we have been in discussions with American Pool about extending the season and keeping hours the same as they currently are.
The good news is that we’re able to extend the season until October – the Council will vote at the September 8 meeting to extend the season (and residents are encouraged to email the Town office at town@townofsomerset.com to weigh in on that consideration).
The bad news is that because of staffing, we will not able to keep our hours – so starting next week, through the rest of the open pool season, the hours will be:
Monday – Thursday: 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Friday: 1:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Saturday: 10:00 am – 9:00 pm
Sunday: 10:00 am – 8:00 pm
In the past this change had occurred after Labor Day to coincide with school starting. Since school is beginning a week early this year it threw things off a bit, so the change in scheduled hours is also coming a week early (i.e., starting Monday, August 31).
LAP SWIMMING
Due to demand, there will now be six lap lanes all day Monday through Friday, except when Water Aerobics is taking place, which will now be 1:00 – 2:00 on M, W, F. During that hour, only two lap lanes will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. On the weekends there will be three lanes until 4:30, and in the evening will go to six lap lanes. Again, the Council will vote at the September meeting to extend the extra lap lanes through the rest of the summer, so residents are encouraged to weigh in on that issue.
RESERVATIONS
You will now notice that there are extra “facility” options in the drop-down on the reservations page. There are now four post-Aug. 30 options:
Free Swim (Post-Aug. 30)
Lap Lanes – 6 Available (Post-Aug. 30)
Water Aerobics (Post-Aug. 30)
Weekend Daytime Lap Lanes – 3 Available (Post-Aug. 30)
Reservations are now open for all of these options. Reservations can be made up to one week at a time. Hopefully you will find them straightforward – the process is otherwise the same as it has been previously. The only “facility” options that may not be intuitive are the two lap lane options – please refer to the schedule above for an explanation. (Due to a limitation of the reservation system, it is not possible to set different capacity levels at different times, hence the need to create two separate facilities for lap swimming, when there are six and three spots, respectively).
Unfortunately, all reservations made post- August 30 will need to be re-booked.
